Whether they’ve decided to start therapy individually or with their partner, my clients tend to say that something hasn’t been feeling good. They’re not feeling as much enjoyment in their life as they want, they’re feeling anxious or down, or maybe they’re feeling more disconnected from other people or their relationship. Sometimes they’ve started comparing themselves or their relationship to others, which can make them feel even worse. They’re feeling all of these things, and it is starting to get overwhelming, tiring, and even at times a little defeating.
If you’re like any of my clients, it’s possible you’ve already started to make some connections about what isn’t working. Maybe you’ve realized that some things from the past have been affecting how you’re feeling today, or that specific parts of your life aren’t feeling good.
Or maybe you’re aware of the patterns that you keep getting stuck in, but you don’t know how to stop or change them. It’s also possible that you have no idea what’s affecting you, or where to even start. You just know that you don’t feel like the best version of yourself and you want something to be different.
If any of this is resonating with you, first, take a breath. You’ve got this.
Whether you’ve got some ideas or not, that’s perfectly okay! You don’t need to have all of the answers, you just need to have the willingness to be curious, lean in, and discover.
Working with a Mental Health Therapist to grow in yourself or your relationship
In our work together, you will have the opportunity to move towards the change, healing, and growth you’ve been desiring. As a team, we’ll identify and explore the beliefs, emotions, and patterns that you’ve felt stuck in, and work to discover a deeper understanding of yourself or your relationship.
We’ll do this at your pace, with respect, compassion, and maybe even with a little humor (we can have fun, too!). I trust that you have the capability to re-claim your life and feel authentically connected to the best version of yourself!
Doing this work has led my clients to feel a sense of release from previous stuck points. Typically, once they start giving themselves the space to experience their emotions and express their thoughts, they notice that it’s a little less overwhelming. Individuals and couples alike usually begin to feel like they’re living their life and relating more authentically. They say that they are feeling more secure, more confident, and more in control.
Couples usually begin to notice and identify the patterns that have been leading to conflict, hurt, or miscommunication. In identifying and noticing these patterns, they tend to realize what has been causing hurt or disconnection in the relationship, and they begin to repair and reconnect. They may begin noticing a little more security or trust, because they’re finally finding their rhythm together again.
I believe that you deserve these changes, too. The best version of you is ready to thrive!
So what can you expect?
-
Before your first appointment, we’ll have a 10 to 15 minute consultation call. This consultation call serves as an opportunity for us to get to know each other and make sure we’re a good fit! I use this call to get a sense of what you’re wanting from therapy, and to discuss the services that I offer.
I invite you to use this call to ask any and all questions that you might have and to get a sense of if I feel like a good fit for you. If you don’t have any questions, no worries. I am happy to share about me, the services offered, and the most commonly asked logistical questions. If you decide at the end of this call that you’re ready to schedule, we will set up your first appointment.

At your first therapy appointment we’ll start with a brief review of some of the information from the forms you completed before session. Then, we’ll spend the majority of our time talking about you and your needs. You can probably expect to discuss the reasons you’ve decided to start therapy, history connected to this, along with your general history, so I can begin to get a sense of you or your relationship.
My hope for the first session is that you share what you’re comfortable sharing, we go at your pace (I’ll respect any boundaries that you set for yourself), and we all leave with a sense of what our work together will be.
At your first appointment, we’ll usually decide how frequently you want to be seen and set up our next appointment. From there, our early sessions are usually a continuation of me learning about you, your history, your needs, and goal setting.
It can take a few sessions for us to get into a good rhythm together, but with time you’ll usually begin to feel comfortable in our sessions and start to have some insights into possible avenues towards the change you’re seeking.
If you’re looking to talk to a Mental Health Therapist in Philadelphia, let’s see if we’re a good fit!
